The Simmons SDS 9 is a descendant of the legendary Simmons SDS 7 electronic drums. Its sound module is an analog/digital hybrid comprised of the analog sources for the bass drums and toms, and digitally sampled snare and rim shot. Today, of course, the most interesting are the true analog sounds, though the snare and rim, with its few dedicated analog controls, are also astonishingly good and fresh sounding.
On analog sounds there are parameters for filter pitch, filter sweep, tone pitch, pitch bend amount, decay length, noise/tone balance, and some others. You must only select the sound on the outboard sound-parameter matrix on the top of the SDS 7, and will have all the above parameters on dedicated knobs. |
| And what makes the SDS 9 to stand out from its analog predecessors, even the SDS 7, and brings it to nowadays world is an excellent MIDI implementation, which recognizes the velocity parameter. So you will be able to play these magnificent electronic drums from you MIDI key-board, even without the drum pads! And since all the analog sounds change its timbre significantly according to the strength with | which the pads are hit or the amount of the velocity parameter, you'll enjoy the excellent dynamics of the sounds. The analog sounds are really classic Simmons (see the review on SDS-200), not digitalized and spoiled like on later models with MIDI (e.g. SDS 1000 and alike) (Send your email.).
