Casio CZ-101 is a synth little by size but big by its sound! This is a special digital synth which sounds very much like an analog. The secret is the "phase distortion" wave forming principle of , capable of reproducing the classic waveforms of sawtooth, square, triangles, and many others not easily achievable by analog oscillators. And there is nice filtering made by a so called DCW section! At first you might be disinclined toward this synth because of its 4-octave keyboard with small keys. But there is MIDI so that you can play the CZ-101 from your favorite master keyboard. Soon you'll discover that these small keys are playable, and surely will appreciate the fact that the total weight of the synth is less than 5 kg. CZ-101 is still very much used in studios because some of its sounds are simply irreproducible by other synths. Some of the sounds are similar to Yamaha digital FM-synthesis, others are more like analog ones. All in all you'll find many outstanding sound on this synht. The highest marks go to its pitch bending and brilliant portamento that will make your solos smooth and natural. No wonder that it was rediscovered by those who like oriental type of sounds where expression is a must. (Send your email). (The picture is gratefully taken from Vintage Synth.
